If Wing Gundam were an actual bird—like a chicken or maybe a duck, you know, a bird that you would find and eat—would you prefer it bone-in or boneless? Because I know when I buy meat, I usually go for boneless because ain't nobody got time to fucking de-bone everything. (That being said I don't mind bone-in chicken but if it's beef or especially pork I want that boneless, you feel?)

"Karu, why are you even asking this question?"
Because some bloke named Yakuza-wolf_kiwami over on Reddit made a post entitled Mobile Suit Gundam Wing: Bone=in [sic] or Boneless to r/gundamwing that is currently standing at a WHOPPING...0 upvotes and 3 comments. This is a guy whose first post in said subreddit was basically, "Oh wow a GW sub? Maybe I'll post here every once in a while since I got banned from r/Gundam. Oh why was I banned? Because I treated fans of Witch from Mercury and Gundam Build Fighters like shit because #UCMasterRace amrite so yeah."

"Okay but why are you even bothering with some Redditor dweeb anyway is it really worth your time?"
Like a shark smelling freshly spilled blood in the water and having their prey drive activated, I know when people disrespect not just my favourite anime series, but also my favourite character. If you look far back enough on my Tumblr I've opined on Heero's clothing/fashion sense because some asshat in the Gundam Wing tag said he sucked as a character because of his [lack of] fashion sense, and I've written meta (and fanfiction) out of spite on my boy as a politer way of saying "you're wrong and here's why also fuck you."

Now this isn't specifically about Heero but—just fucking read it.

Or don't.

I don't get paid regardless for my fandom opinions so like does it matter?

(If you want a shorter/abridged version, I plurked about this, so you can go there if you want a slightly more digestible version because I didn't go over the whole thing, just things that bothered me.)

WE OPEN THIS "REVIEW" WITH:
We've all seen this anime, don't lie. Even if you don't know jack shit about Gundam, if you were a 90’s kid, you'd most likely have watched it. Now this is the anime that put Gundam on the western map, as everyone who remembered what a blockbuster was and played the majority of the Disney renaissance films on VHS definitely saw and most likely liked it.
There is more to being a "90s kid" than just watching Disney VHS tapes and renting movies from Blockbuster lmao it's also a broad term comprising of people born in the mid to late 80s and very early 90s. Since OP mentions Gundam Wing in the context of the "western map" we are going to be talking about the dub, baby! Which was released on 6 March of 2000 so happy 25th birthday!

(Anyone else feel really old hearing that?)
Now the real question is, does it hold up?
Politically speaking, yes. Yes it does.
In every other aspect? No, absolutely not, it is, as they say, a "product of its time" considering they use floppy disks to save things onto with "high levels of encryption" so like. The fashion alone is very 1990s like that is how I was dressing as a young child so like. Though like idk high-waisted jeans ("mom jeans") and tucking t-shirts into them are some of the things that have made a comeback though I question what's wrong with a good mid-rise pant... Anyway.

Does that make it bad? No, not for that fact alone. Some things age better than others and the things that don't you can tell are a product of the time it was created in.
Yeah, it's no secret that nowadays, you either still have a soft spot for it or you think it's the most overrated Gundam series. And NGL, I'm not too sure myself.
The only people I've ever seen call it "overrated" are UC fanboys in the comments of Screen Rants articles and your average r/Gundam post. I don't know why you're unsure of your thoughts on it, considering you've (allegedly) seen all 49 episodes and have graced the readers of r/gundamwing with this review so like. Do you think it's overhyped? Have you developed some soft spot for it? DO YOU HAVE THE NOSTALGIA—
Keep in mind that I wasn't even alive during the Wing craze on Toonami, I was born in 2001
Which was a year after it came out in the States and, depending on what month you were born in, you're like a post-9/11 baby and don't have the Millennial "privilege" of living through multiple world changing historical events.

How old was I in 2001? I was 9 years old (so 4th grade), I was 8 when Gundam Wing aired on Toonami, and I was almost 11 when I first watched Gundam Wing and EVERYTHING flew over my head.

I think the youngest GW fan I met in the wild (of the internet) was like 22 or 23 and that was back in fucking 2018 when I was 26. It is super rare to meet "younguns".

(I'm not saying it's impossible for there to be young as hell fans what with the advent of streaming services like Hulu and Netflix but it is rare considering this is a 30 year old anime series.)

So you're admitting more or less that you're not viewing this with any kind of "nostalgia goggles" okay, are you expecting points for that or something? A cookie? A medal? Because I don't have that "watching GW on Toonami" nostalgia lens either and I was around and very much into anime.

"What leads most people to Gundam Wing?"
Trauma. I'm not lying, we had a survey done for the silver anniversary zine and that was most people's response was they stumbled on it by accident and stayed because it helped cope with trauma.

Does OP have any trauma they need help coping with? 🤔
So my opinions about this anime is really mixed, so let's talk about what does this anime do well and what wasn't as good as we thought
lol
lmao
I don't think anyone who actually likes or even loves Gundam Wing will ever tell you that it's a masterpiece or even that great 😂 we all acknowledge that it's like mediocre at best we're all here hyperfixating on Heero or Duo or one of the other pilots or characters right because it helps us cope with whatever bullshit is going on at home alright like let's not get things twisted.

welcome to bullet hell where there's nothing but bullet points and walls of text separating the bullet points )

Like idk fam. I know it's really trendy esp for UC fanboys to shit on Gundam Wing and be all "oh it's overhyped turdlets" and whatever and OP is the type of person to shit on people for liking the things that they don't so like. idk. If it wasn't for Gundam Wing no one would give a fuck about Gundam in the States and you wouldn't have Gundam series on Hulu and Netflix. Just saying ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

So you can look up Probate docs online because most of it is public record so that's cool to know. That means Rob (or myself, or my other brother) can check to see if anything else has been filed or whatever else which is pretty cool. You end up with a list like this:

yesterday my brother Rob texted me to ask if I have an ID with my old Port Jervis address on it in the hopes that maybe I could collect Egg's mail from the post office and take it off the hostage hold it's been on since end of April. I said I do, but I don't think I can collect someone else's mail even if we lived at the same address. USPS pretty much confirmed my suspicions as correct. it's kind of a big deal, making sure unauthorized people don't get someone else's mail. I would need a court order, same as him.

which means he has to wait for the judgement declaring him the executor of her estate before he can retrieve her mail and put a forward on it...and that will take 6-8 weeks minimum. The lawyer said it'll take them that much time to even look at it, to say nothing of an actual decree or whatever. It can take 9-18 months for the estate to be settled in terms of legalities in the state of New York; in New Jersey it takes 6-9 months. this is because of how probate works and NYS being anal retentive, making sure that everything is done to the absolute letter of the law, no stone left unturned, etc. Make sure that all of these different assets and whatever are distributed exactly as they should be/need to be before Rob is allowed to do anything...like sell the house, for example.

it's all a bunch of waiting. it's all a bunch of bureaucracy. it's the courts going "yeah this will is good do what it says" and then Rob having to prove that he is doing what the will says I guess and meanwhile probate isn't a cheap thing either and it's going to take at least 9 months if it's a simple estate.

Egg's estate isn't simple because she has a lot of assets and every single one has to be accounted for. he is ready to jump off a cliff I think. out of all of us tho he is the best equipped for this task because he is good with numbers and staying on task and running around whereas my wife would've had to involuntarily commit me somewhere if I attempted this.

the mail thing is going to send him around the bend.

we knew her estate was going to be a nightmare but we didn't know just how exceptionally nightmarish it would be. it's like her "fuck you" from beyond the grave.

meanwhile I deposited the life insurance check I got the other day so...there is that for a silver lining I suppose.
